5 Stars down syndome the first 18 months
Fantastic couldn’t recommend this highly enough .So much positive and interesting view points .I’m a mother of 2 children ,one with down syndrome and i wish they had showed me this before I left hospital.
5 Stars You don’t have to travel alone
I purchashed this dvd for myself and my daughter. After giving birth to four healthy children we were caught off guard after my daughter gave birth to 8 lb 12 oz, Jonathan, her fifth child and my eighteenth grandchild; he had Downs syndrome. We were especially surprised when my daughter had taken two different test during her pregnancy and the final result was that her unborn child didn’t have it. I immediately started searching the internet for as much information as possible about Downs Syndrome and I came upon this DVD. We found the DVD to be very insightful. The visual aspects of the video helped us to identify any obstacles we would have to overcome and help answer any questions we would have. Needless, to say, we are still very truly blessed because Jonathan is making tremendous strives every day. We’ve found out we are not alone and the other parents that have had to travel this road have left us a road map on where to go for help and what questions to ask. It’s like you’ve held your breath and now you can exhale because the DVD, Down Syndrome: The First 18 months, gives you that boost of ‘oxygen’ you need to go on. I highly recommend it to others. We’re like sponges, I’m ordering as much material as I can for my entire family and hers. Would we change anything, ‘NO WAY’!
5 Stars A good tool for Early Interventionists
As a developmental specialist I recommend this DVD to all of my families that have a child diagnosed with Down Syndrome. It is a good overview of the first year and a half of their child’s life and the needs that may arise. I even use it to train other professionals. This DVD is a great place to start when you you meet a child with Down Syndrome whether it is your own child or in a professional setting.
5 Stars Watch this first!
If you have a new baby with Down syndrome or someone in your family does then this DVD is a must have. This DVD is so informative and tells you very important information. If you are unfamiliar with Down syndrome this DVD is for you.
5 Stars Must have for all new parents of kids with Down syndrome!!
WOW!! I wish this video was available when my daughter was born almost 3 years ago! It should be included in every diaper bag from the hospital when the child has Down syndrome! It is all of the information that I wish I knew when my daughter was first born. It is like Down syndrome 101. You don’t walk away with a hopeless feeling about your new baby’s lease on life, instead, you understand that your child has an extra chromosome, and that chromosome, as small as it may be, WILL be the largest blessing and life lesson you learn. This video will be on the “must see” list for any new parents joining our Down synrdrome playgroup, and I hope NADS and NDSS will add it to their new parent packets….although $35 is a bit steep when you have been hit with a child with special needs, it is well worth a trip to the library!!! Even if you have to special request it via inter-library loan!!!

3 Stars Tell me there is something better out there
Okay, I am a stay at home mom who does not have time for a CPR class but would like to learn how. So you think a DVD like this would be perfect. First off it is a bit confusing and lengthy. They don’t do a good job of teaching you in a way that you can remember. I actually think I have already forgot everything I learned from watching it. ALSO, I am not sure how current this type of CPR I learned is. I would recommend researching it a bit further than I did.
4 Stars Decent DVD - Good To Know
This dvd is a good review for the medical provider and a good overview for the layperson. I suggest every family with infants/children watch a DVD or tape like this yearly or take a class. I do know the guidelines may have changed a little bit since the DVD was made, so what I did was print out easy to follow CPR and choking directions and hung them in an easy to reach place in the kitchen for everyone - but I did make my whole family watch this and will keep it around for the future.
4 Stars useful and concise
While I wouldn’t advocate relying on a DVD to replace Red Cross CPR training, it was a perfect refresher for me (trained <5 years ago) and enough to make me feel more comfortable with babysitters after they viewed it. It gives all the necessary steps in a clear (if not a little cheesy) way and is concise enough not to bore you to tears.
1 Star Outdated info
This video has outdated information on the correct ratio for CPR. Needs to be updated!
1 Star not very good
take a class; I did after watching this video and learned much more hands on. I think any video alone won’t work at all

5 Stars 20 minutes to Affective Parenting: Communication Skills
I think the video was right on.. Gave me a lot of tips and things to do and say when certain situations arrise with my children. I would recommend this and any other materials that you have to anyone.
5 Stars great tips that are easy to remember
I think everyone should have to have some child rearing education. I always here how parents do it differently with child #2 and child #3 - they learned on the job.
I wanted a little cheat sheet so that I could start early with child #1.
This video was so easy to watch and so easy to understand.
It’s not as much disciplining as it is giving information to your children and creating expectations through that information.
When we sat to watch the video, my husband said, “makes perfect sense.”
We have used the tips successfully ever since.
5 Stars Practical, Effective and Builds Relationship
Awesome easy to implement strategies, with immediate results towards positive behavour. These techniques improve relationships with children, are strength based and practical. A strong point of the DVD is the modeling of both scenarios - how not to use a method and how it looks when implemented in a positive way. Short (twenty minutes) and straightforward.
5 Stars wonderful guide
This DVD touches on great communication skills to use in your family–making it easy for everyone in the family to learn how to improve communication and behaviors. I would recommend this to any family who is looking to create a stronger relationship within the family, or for any family who is just looking for suggestions of ways to be more effective in communication.
5 Stars Great for “new” or “used” parents
This DVD is very useful for first-time parents or parents with more than one child. Sometimes we start off great with our parenting but the hassles of every day grind can erode the way we interact with our kids. As a father of 2 boys (ages 7 and 4) I found this DVD useful for helping me to be the parent I want to be while still having my kids become the kids I want them to be. This DVD gives GREAT information on building skills so that I can still parent my kids my way only more EFFECTIVELY.
